New ride set to open at Astrid Lindgren’s World
Astrid Lindgren’s World in Vimmerby, Sweden, is set to unveil a new attraction when it opens for the summer season next May, called Vi På Saltkråkan.
The new area will bring to life the characters from Lindgren’s stories, written for television in the 1960s, about an eccentric family who spent their holidays on Saltkråkan (Sea Crow Island).
Guests will travel through scenarios in Mystic Mover ride vehicles from ETF, with audio in Swedish, German and English, against a backdrop of harbour and island locations, sounds and smells.
“The scenes and the characters and the expressions they use have become so familiar and are so well remembered, that the mere mention of a scene can elicit roars of laughter from an audience, or the repetition of a phrase bring to mind an entire story,” said Mikael Ahlerup, general manager of Astrid Lindgren’s World.
“It is these memories that are captured in recreated scenes from the TV series during this journey.”
One of the actors, who played the character Malin, will be seen as the girl she was then and also as she is today. Louise Edlind-Friberg, now a policitian as well as an actor, will be seen as an older Malin reading her diary and narrating stories before she is transformed back to the teenager she was in the tv series through a ghost effect.
The 37 animatronic characters in Vi På Saltkråkan, as well as the scents, smoke, rain and wind used in the new attraction, have all been created by Sally Corporation.
Astrid Lindgren’s World is dedicated to the life and works of the author, whose best known character was Pippi Longstocking. The park is owned by the Municipality of Vimmerby. Details: www.alv.se
