New routes and a second ship for easyCruise
EasyCruise – the budget cruise liner launched by Stelios Haji-Ioannou in May – has already announced plans for a second ship and new destinations.
Strong summer bookings mean easyCruise is now planning trips to Barbados for the winter season – which will include visits to Saint Lucia and Grenada – between November 2005 and April 2006.
Plans for the summer of 2006 or 2007 include a new base in the Greek islands and the addition of a further cruise liner. This would enable a route to the Arabian Gulf during the winter 2006-7 itinerary.
Passengers so far have been of more than 90 different nationalities, with an average age of 33 years.
Stelios is also taking bookings for the first easyHotel, which opens in central London on 1 August.
The property has 34 rooms, of which 28 are standard windowless doubles. A further three rooms have windows, and a premium price tag.
The concept is based on a trade off of room space against price – the rooms are only 60 to 80sq ft (5.6-7.4sq m) and there are no communal areas or bars. Housekeeping is also an optional extra.
Working on the standard easyGroup principle, the earlier customers book, the cheaper the price – prices start from £10 per room.
Another easyHotel – in Basel, Switzerland – is due to open in September. Details: www.easy.com
