New sports facilities for Church Aston
Telford and Wrekin Council (TWC) has announced plans to provide new recreational facilities for young people in Church Aston, near Newport, Shropshire.
A new all-weather goal end will be installed at the village's playing field on Wallshead Way in addition to an existing recreation ground and play area, which will provide an area for football and basketball. Planning permission and funding has already been given the green light by the council, which expects work to get underway in April as part of a joint initiative with Church Aston Parish Council.
TWC cabinet member for active lifestyles Stephen Bentley said: "[The new goal end] means that children and young people - who have asked for improvements to the facilities there - will have somewhere to practice their skills even in wet weather, which can sometime affect the grassed recreational area."
