New sports facilities open in Herne Bay
Canterbury City Council (CCC) has announced the formal opening of the new Bay Sports Arena and an extension to Herons Leisure Centre in Herne Bay, Kent.
The new arena has been developed at Herne Bay High School and is part of a wider revamp of sports facilities at the institution, including a four-court hall and a gymnastics hall. Bay Sports Arena offers facilities for international roller hockey; football; volleyball; bowls; basketball; and other sports, with retractable tiered seating and skate hire also on offer.
Meanwhile, the extended Herons Leisure Centre now accommodates an upgraded gym and two studios. The facilities will add to the venue's existing swimming pool. CCC has worked with Kent County Council and Herne Bay High School on the project, with both representing investment totalling more than £4m.
Provian carried out the work at Bay Sports Arena, while Cosmur undertook the extension of Herons Leisure Centre.
