New sports facilities strategy for Singapore
Singapore's ministry of community development, youth and sport (MCYS) and Singapore Sports Council (SSC) are working on a new sports facilities strategy for the country.
Covering a 20-year period, the Sports Facilities Master Plan aims to guide the development of new venues in order to increase participation and enhance the country's sports sector. Three tiers of sites have been identified: Tier One includes an ecosystem at Kallang Sports City to boast facilities capable of hosting international events.
Singapore Sports Hub would be its "premier venue" to accommodate sports lifestyle and entertainment zones, as well as research and development centres. Tier Two consists of regional integrated town hubs, with the first scheduled for completion in Tampines by 2015. Tier Three features community and lifestyle facilities.
A MCYS spokesperson said: "In partnership with the Ministry of Education, SSC will expand the Dual-Use Scheme to open more school fields and indoor sports hall for public use outside school hours." The announcement comes after SSC announced increased funding to help national sports associations implement youth development schemes.
