A new strategic guide compiled by Julie's Bicycle has been launched in an effort to ensure a more sustainable energy future for arts and cultural buildings throughout the UK.

Energising Culture was produced in collaboration with The Theatres Trust and was unveiled at the advisory agency's Conference 12 - Delivering Sustainable Theatres.

The strategic guide aims to engage the country's cultural leadership with issues concerning energy demand and supply, as well as the implication they will have on business models.

According to the new guide, arts and cultural facilities of all sizes, functions and ownership models will be able to reduce money and carbon emissions by starting to plan ahead now.

Energising Culture also examines the current range of financial incentives, funding sources and investment models available in helping organisations address energy issues.

Julie's Bicycle CEO Alison Tickell said: "We hope that the practical guidance, provocations and advice will enable cultural buildings to build sustainability into the way we think about the energy mix."

The Theatres Trust director Mhora Samuel added: "Energising Culture will guide many more theatres to make the right energy decisions and help them to become more energy efficient."
