New training programmes for fitness staff in London hotels
The London Development Agency (LDA) has promised the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) a grant of £160,000 to produce an 18-month training programme for exercise professionals working in hotels in Greater London.
The LDA, employers and REPs are keen to ensure such employees are fully-equipped to deal with the unique demands their jobs place on them.
REPs Registrar Cliff Collins said: “Exercise professionals working in hotels need a broad skills base not least because of the diverse and transient nature of their clients. They also have to manage more gym and pool areas than their contemporaries who work in bigger clubs and gyms.
“We hope this programme, which has been specifically tailored to meet these needs, will help address any shortfall and ensure both staff and clients are being offered the best service possible.”
The programme, which is due to be launched in April this year, will offer 400 units of qualification at levels two and three including customer service, health and safety, working with children, working with older adults, understanding ethnic diversity and swimming pool management.
