New wellness centre for Summerside
Construction will start in July on a new wellness centre in the city of Summerside, Canada.
The project is being run and coordinated by Summerside City Council and will be built in two phases. Phase one will be to develop an aquatics and fitness centre and phase two will see the construction of an ice rink and 3,500 seat arena.
The aquatics centre will consist of a six-lane, 25-metre lap pool, a leisure pool featuring a 40-metre water slide and a hot tub and steam room.
The second floor of the centre will house a 3,500 sq ft fitness centre with two squash courts and meeting rooms.
There is a $9 million US budget for phase one of the project, of which $6.1 million US has been committed by the city council. The remaining funding will be met by other sources.
WHW Architects are the prime design consultant on the wellness centre. The sub-consultant is MJM Architects of Toronto.
