Work has started on a new £30m destination hotel and spa resort at Tregorrick, near St. Austell, in Cornwall.
The Cornwall Hotel, Spa and Estate will be set in a 43-acre area of historic wood and parkland, designed with a natural theme to fit in with the surrounding Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Bristol-based architects AWW designed the new resort, which will see the transformation of a 19th century country house into a 65-bedroom luxury hotel including a restaurant and family bistro. As well as the hotel, 60 woodland homes will also be built around the estate, providing holiday accommodation. Nearby stables will be converted into a spa, which will include a number of features, including an infinity-edged pool, drench showers and treatment rooms offering holistic and natural treatments. Sir Robert McAlpine is responsible for the construction work, which is due to be completed in December 2009. The resort will be owned by CMR Leisure and managed by Bespoke Hotels, which also operates Home House private members' club in London and The Pinewood in Buckinghamshire. CMR Leisure's Richard Whitehouse said: "The Cornwall Hotel, Spa and Estate is a very exciting concept. We have ensured that our development plans will respect and sensitively compliment the outstanding flora, fauna, and setting of the estate and the integrity of the buildings. "The estate's historic setting and natural beauty is our greatest asset. It has been the inspiration for the architecture and interiors, and it is a very important part of what The Cornwall will be able to offer its guests."
