New £3m football facility opened in Grimsby
Graham Taylor, former manager of the England football team, has officially opened the new £3m Bradley Football Development Centre in Grimsby.
The Bradley Playing Fields site has been expanded by nearly 3 hectares (7.4 acres) and has been transformed into a new hub for social and sporting activity. Facilities include 12 full-size grass pitches; six Mini-Soccer pitches; five junior pitches; two cricket wickets; and a 3G floodlit artificial grass pitch.
The Football Foundation contributed £1m towards the project, along with £100,000 from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund and £300,000 from the Football Association. Meanwhile, the Football Foundation has also provided funding for two other sports schemes across the UK - in St Ives, near Huntingdon, and in Weymouth, Dorset.
A £500,000 grant is to be used to develop a 3G artificial grass pitch and sports pavilion at the St Ives Outdoor Centre in a bid to increase participation. Redlands Community Sports Hub in Weymouth has received £80,000 towards the creation of a new 3G artificial grass pitch and access improvements.
