New £7.3m leisure centre proposed for Horsham
Horsham District Council (HDC) has put forward plans for the development of a new £7.3m leisure centre, which will replace the outdated Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre.
The proposals tabled by the local authority would see the creation of a considerably larger and more expensive facility than originally planned.
A large health and fitness suite will be among the facilities at the new centre, as well as a multi-purpose dance studio/meeting room/crèche, a six-rink indoor bowls arena, a three-court sports hall and outdoor courts.
It follows a report by Strategic Leisure and FMG Consulting, which explored the area's leisure provision. Councillors will debate whether to proceed with the plans during a full council meeting on 27 June.
Jonathan Chowen, cabinet member for arts, heritage and leisure at HDC said: "The feedback from the consultation exercise has been very helpful to assist the Council in its decision making and the current proposal takes account of this along with other work, including how to improve the long term viability of the centre."
