Nomis' better ball control
Last weekend's inaugural Grass Roots Football Show at ExCel in London saw the UK launch of a revolutionary new football boot.
Based on the design of a running shoe, Nomis is the creation of Simon Skirrow - responsible, in partnership with ex-Liverpool player Craig Johnston, for the adidas Predator range - and is claimed to give better contact with the ball whatever the weather is doing.
The Nomis Control Dry boot features a technology applied to the leather during the tanning process which is reported to produce 16 times more control of the ball than a standard boot when used in dry conditions.
Similarly, Nomis Control Wet can give a player nearly eight times more grip and control of the ball in wet conditions: the wetter the conditions the better the grip, in fact, although the leather only absorbs about one per cent of the weight of the boot.
Elsewhere, the stud pattern has been redesigned to improve stability, ground grip, comfort and freedom of movement
The Nomis range is also being adapted for other sports such as golf and rugby, where the technology is ideal for use in gloves.
Skirrow says: “The discovery that the wetter a glove or boot gets, the more grip is created, will have major consequences across many sports.
“And it is something which can benefit all players, be they professional or amateur, so launching the boot at the Grass Roots Football Show made perfect sense.”
