Norfolk Wildlife Trust in £1m appeal to expand Cley Marshes reserve
Norfolk Wildlife Trust (NWT) has launched a £1m fundraising appeal to help expand Cley Marshes nature reserve through the acquisition of 143 acres (58 hectares) of adjoining land.
The purchase will enable the trust to safeguard an 8km (5-mile) stretch of coastline, with the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation offering a special finance facility to help in its efforts.
Cley Marshes is regarded as the site at which the Wildlife Trusts movement started in 1926, when a 12-man group led by Dr Sydney Long sought to protect important natural locations.
NWT chief executive Brendan Joyce said: "The trust has been offered a special finance facility, which allows us 22 months to raise the £1m to complete the purchase."
