North Lincs play schemes 'under threat'
North Lincolnshire Council (NLC) have revealed that 12 local play projects could have to be shelved after the government decided to review the future of the Playbuilder initiative.
A decision is expected this month on whether the government is planning to axe funding for the programme, which has already seen 11 new play areas open across the North Lincolnshire region in 2009. The government is looking at reducing spending on Playbuilder projects by £65m across the country, which would affect plans to provide 1,400 new or improved facilities.
NLC deputy leader Len Foster said: "I find it amazing that one minute the funding is there and now the whole scheme hangs in the balance and we've got to wait another month before we find out what's happening. "The project aims to encourage more young people to get active and reduce anti-social behaviour, so for the government to pull the plug now, half way through, would be devastating."
