Northern Ireland updates sports strategy
The Sports Council and government have teamed up in Northern Ireland to produce a strategy to lead sport over the next 20 years.
The draft strategy for Sport and Physical Recreation 2007 to 2017 was launched on 9 October by Minister for Culture, Arts & Leisure, Edwin Poots, and public consultation will be ongoing until 9 January.
DCAL spokesperson, Ciaran May, says the main focus is to update the previous strategy which ran from 1997 to 2005, but what’s different about this one is that it is being run in conjunction with the Sports Council for Northern Ireland.
“We needed a strategy which takes into account the changes since the development of the last one, to find out where the government should put its priorities, what lessons have been learned and how we could improve,” he says.
