Northwich 'floatel' set for demolition
A derelict floating hotel in Northwich, Cheshire, which has been regarded as an "eyesore structure", is to be demolished as part of efforts to revamp the town's waterfront.
The 'floatel' - which formerly housed a Quality Hotel before owner Real Hotel Group entered administration earlier this year - has been damaged by vandals and now poses a health and safety risk. Preparatory work is now underway on the British Waterways (BW)-funded scheme, which will see internal fixtures and fittings removed in preparation for the main structural demolition as part of the Northwich Vision initiative.
BW's investment and development manager, Mike Coates, said: "The hotel was put into place in pre-fabricated segments and will be demolished in the same way. "Once the site is clear, we plan to introduce temporary boating moorings, improving the riverfront appearance and offering a glimpse of how the future will look when Northwich Vision becomes a reality."
