Nottingham RFC facing stadium threat
Nottingham Rugby Football Club (NRFC) has revealed that it could be left homeless after the new owners of Notts County Football Club (NCFC) terminated a ground-sharing agreement between the two clubs.
In 2005, the rugby club contributed £50,000 to help NCFC through a period of financial difficulties, which led to a deal to enable NRFC to use the venue as its home ground for an annual sum of £75,000 plus all bar and catering income and a contribution towards pitch maintenance. NCFC's decision has left professional rugby union in Nottingham facing an uncertain future, which has already been under threat after NRFC revealed in November last year that it needed an urgent cash injection to help the club survive.
NRFC chair Geoff Huckstep said: "There's a limit to what we are able to say at this time because the matter is now with our lawyers, but we are obviously very disappointed to find ourselves in this position. "As far as we are concerned, we have a contract to use Meadow Lane next season but Notts County apparently view things differently."
