Nottingham’s historic Guildhall could be converted into a four-star hotel with 100 bedrooms, as the city’s council considerers whether or not to hold talks with Sanguine Hospitality about a proposed development of the building.

Sanguine, which develops luxury hotels for the likes of the Hilton and Intercontinental hotel groups, has produced outline plans for the development of Guildhall and has also held talks with English Heritage about the proposed project.

However, no specific details have been revealed about the hotel, or which hotel brand might take on the Guildhall if the project goes ahead.

"We very much look forward to continuing what has been a close dialogue with Nottingham City Council and English Heritage in our joint desire to convert this iconic and historically important landmark building into an internationally-branded flagship hotel in what is a vitally important location within Nottingham city centre,” said a spokesperson from Sanguine.

"We fully appreciate the emotive and historic architectural value of the Guildhall and every effort is and will continue to be made to retain these features and grandeur of the building."

The Guildhall was originally built in 1888 and cost £65,000, with the building being used as municipal offices and courts. The landmark is well known for its grand entrance which once led into an expansive set of courtrooms.

The building was used as the council’s headquarters up until 2010 when operations were moved to Station Street’s Loxley House.
