Notts County avoids administration
New Notts County Football Club (NCFC) chair Ray Trew has announced that the troubled Coca Cola League Two club will not face administration this season.
Concerns had been raised over the financial security of the club after HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) issued winding up proceedings over an unpaid tax bill, following the withdrawal of support from Munto Finance. The High Court dismissed the winding up petition in a hearing today (24 February after Trew confirmed that NCFC would not have to be placed in administration, following an assessment of club finances.
Trew said: "It has always been our intention to avoid administration, which may have been an easier option, but would have caused considerable harm to the local companies that have shown great faith and support in this club in recent years. "We now hope to move on from the troubles of the past, to focus on making Notts County Football Club a viable and attractive sporting institution once again."
Meanwhile, Cork City Football Club (CCFC) has lost its battle for survival after Dublin's High Court granted a winding up order against the former League of Ireland Premier Division club. In a statement, the Football Association of Ireland's independent club licensing committee confirmed that it had granted supporters' group, the Friends of the Rebel Army Society, a First Division licence for 2010.
It is anticipated that the organisation will form a new club to replace the now-defunct CCFC.
