O2 Arena site put up for sale
AEG Europe, owner and operator of London's O2 Arena, has insisted that the venue is definitely not for sale despite Meridian Delta Dome Limited (MDDL) offering the site's land lease up for sale.
MDDL, a joint venture between Lend Lease and Quintain Estates and Development, has appointed Savills to market the lease on the site in Greenwich, south London, although no price has yet been confirmed. However, the deal is not going to affect AEG's operating lease of the O2 Arena venue – formerly known as the Millennium Dome.
A spokesperson for AEG Europe said: "Meridian Delta Dome Ltd is the landlord of the site in which the arena sits not the owner of The O2 arena. MDDL are seeking to find a purchaser for their interest which effectively means that on sale AEG will simply pay its ground rent to a different company. "AEG and The O2 has had an incredible first 18 months in business, setting worldwide entertainment records, and we are confident 2009 will be even better."
