Official launch for historic Glasgow hotel
Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond has officially launched the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow with the unveiling of a memorial plaque in its reception area.
The historic property has benefited from a major £20m overhaul led by Principal Hayley, which acquired the hotel in spring 2009. Interior designer Charles Leon Associates and architects Crerar and Partners worked on the Grand Central Hotel revamp, while Historic Scotland were also involved.
The new plaque at the A-listed hotel, which reopened to the public last October, celebrates the first long-distance television transmission to the property in 1927. Salmond said: "The Grand Central Hotel has been restored to her former glory by this £20m investment and refurbishment.
"The much-needed regeneration of this prominent city centre site and the creation of 150 jobs is to be warmly welcomed."
