Olympic venues to stage major 2011 events
UK Sport has announced that five of London's Olympic and Paralympic venues are to host major sporting events in 2011.
Wembley (World Badminton Championships); Hyde Park (World Triathlon Championship Series) and Eton Dorney (World Junior Rowing Championships) are among the venues. The Olympic Park (BMX Supercross World Cup) and Greenwich Park (Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final) are also included on UK Sport's calendar of major events for 2011.
According to the elite sports agency, organisers of the 2012 Games would have the chance to "test certain aspects of these competitions". UK Sport, which has published a calendar featuring up to 27 events across 22 sports, also aims to provide two further events for the Olympic Park next year.
Liz Nicholl, the agency's chief executive, said: "We are delivering the most comprehensive programme of major sporting events ever staged by an Olympic and Paralympic host nation, and setting a new international benchmark for future hosts."
