Oswestry Borough Council (OBC) has approved a £7.6m contract for the construction of a new leisure facility which it calls "the largest community asset for many years."

The total cost of the proposed Oswald Park Lifestyle Centre is more than £9.5m, and is still subject to receiving permission from Shropshire Council's Implementation Executive. In a report presented to OBC's full council on 18 November, Dave Jones, director of community services, said the four tenders for the contract had been received by the council with a construction period of 85 weeks.

Facilities set to be included at the new centre include a swimming pool, a learner pool, a 56-station gym and a four-court sports hall. A cafe, an external play area and changing rooms are also among the proposals.
