Our Dynamic Earth opens £2m new galleries
Our Dynamic Earth (ODE) unveiled two new galleries at the end of March – FutureDome and Earthscape Scotland.
The £1.8m investment was funded by the Millennium Commission’s science centre renewal fund, ReDiscover and the Scottish Executive.
Earthscape Scotland is a free outdoor gallery tracing Scotland’s geographical landcape. The external ampitheatre features five exhibits, including rock formations and plants of geographical interest.
Visitors can travel back in time on the interactive FutureDome ride – a 360-degree dome projection with revolving platforms – to witness disaster scenarios which have had a dramatic effect on the planet. Visitors are then asked to vote on key issues affecting the evolution of the planet before travelling into the future to witness the impact of their decisions.
The new galleries are aimed at new and returning visitors and have been designed to increase the public’s awareness of the consequences of the decisions we make. Details: www.dynamicearth.co.uk
