'Outdoor theatre' for south east England
Accentuate - the London 2012 legacy project for south east England - has commissioned a new outdoor theatre show examining the history of the Paralympic movement.
Forming part of the Cultural Olympiad in the south east region, the project will incorporate more than 100 disabled and non-disabled young people from across the world. Disabled visual artist Rachel Gadsden and Mark Smith of Deaf Man Dancing will lead the scheme, with work to devise the piece due to commence on 27 September.
Stoke Mandeville Spinal Injuries Unit; Shed in the Park; and Stocklake Park School will be among the project's partners, along with John Waycliffe Christina School, South Africa. Meanwhile, other international partners will contribute online through an "e-community" website managed by Creative Junction.
London 2012 creative programmer Caterina Loriggio said: "This project will make a tremendous contribution to the South East's Cultural Olympiad programme." Accentuate aims to boost the number of opportunities available to deaf and disabled people and currently features 15 projects representing a range of sectors in the south east.
