Over a million Londoners take part in Totally London Tour
The Totally London Tour came to an end with the South Bank and Bankside weekend on 27-28 September, having seen over a million people taking part in the month-long series of free festivals and events designed to showcase the capital.
The tour, which began with 12,000 people attending a concert in Trafalgar Square starring David Gray and Morcheeba, took in nine major events across the city as well as exhibitions, fairs and shows.
Over 450,000 people took part in Covent Garden Week and 360,000 visited the 300 historic buildings, which opened their doors to the public in the annual Open House weekend.
The tour was funded by the mayor’s London Development Agency and is part of an ongoing tourism recovery campaign targeting Londoners, the rest of the UK and Europe.
Mayor, Ken Livingstone, said: “Londoners have really participated in every phase of the Totally London campaign so far and the tour gave everyone a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the enormous breadth and variety the city has to offer.”
The next phase of the Totally London campaign will be launched in October, targeting the European and domestic short breaks market.
The European campaign, being run in conjunction with VisitBritain and British Airways, will focus particularly on France, Germany, Scandinavia and Belgium. Details: www.visitlondon.com
