Local residents in Oxford are set to be given the chance to comment on the proposed redevelopment of the city's Barton Pool and Ferry Leisure Centre facilities in November.

Oxford City Council (OCC) will place display boards at both centres as part of the public consultation process between 6-20 November, which will help Fusion Lifestyle - the operator of the facilities - to draw up detailed plans for the scheme. OCC's board member for leisure and sport, Bob Timbs, said: "We recognise the importance of understanding the opinions of local residents, current users, centre staff and all interested parties of these facilities.

"Our leisure centres have long been in need of redevelopment, which is why we made a commitment to invest an additional £2.21m to improve the city's leisure facilities." Tim Mills, Fusion Lifestyle's director of business development, added: "The proposals are part of our long term commitment to improving the community's experience at their local sport and leisure centres.

"We want to know what people think about the plans and ensure that there is plenty of opportunity for local residents to be involved in the process and feedback their thoughts before any final decisions are made." It is hoped that once detailed designs are drawn up, work will start at both sites in early summer 2010.
