Paralympic Sports Open Day and Disability Swimming Festival
Newmarket Leisure Centre is opening its doors to the exciting world of disability sport and will be hosting a Paralympic Sports Open Day on Sunday 25 July.
The Open Day will give local people a taste of what's on offer across the area stretching from Newmarket to Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds. The event will run from 10am to 5.30pm and high performance disability sports clubs from Suffolk and Cambridgeshire will be coming in to promote their sport and chat to people about how to get involved. Each club will perform a demo followed by a high quality coaching session. These sessions are free and there is no need to pre-book, so people can simply turn up on the day.
Activities will include Table Cricket, Weight Lifting and Power Lifting, Boccia, Wheel Chair Tennis, Wheel chair Basketball and Goalball. There will also be the chance to take a tour of the Fitness Studio and to take part in the Disability Swimming Festival later in the afternoon. Entry in the swimming festival is free but participants must register by 19 July.
Keiran Williams, Community Sports Leader for Anglia Community Leisure, says: "Newmarket Leisure Centre is a state of the art multi million pound facility which is full of features to make it more accessible. With the London 2012 Paralympics high on everyone's agenda, there's never been a better time to get involved with disability sport and this Open Day will be a spectacular show case for what's on offer in the East of England."
The day is being run in conjunction with Optua and Activities Unlimited.
