French football giant Paris Saint Germain (PSG) is on the hunt for an architect to design a new training centre, expected to be among the best in the world once completed.

The reigning Ligue 1 champion has purchased a 740,000sq m (8 million sq ft) site in Poissy, Greater Paris to build the facility, which will include 14 football pitches.

The centre will be the home to a 5,000-capacity stadium, which will host fixtures from Women’s Ligue 1 and the Women’s Champions League, as well as youth team and reserve matches.

It will also include a sports clinic with medical assessment and treatment area, meeting rooms, classrooms, a library and a computer room. A team hotel with 32 luxury bedrooms for first team players, and 80 standard bedrooms for youth and academy players, will be built on the site.

A tender has been sent out to select an architectural firm, with the aim of pinning one down by the end of the year.

Work will begin on the ambitious project in September 2017 after months of planning. The centre is due to be completed by August 2019.

Nasser Al-Khelaifa, chair and chief executive of PSG, said the centre will be “one of the best in the world” and will “attract the most talented young footballers from all over the world”.

“For the last five years, we have worked to develop PSG in order to make it into a leading European and worldwide football club and a truly global sports brand,” he added.

“From the very beginning, the development of this training centre has been a cornerstone of our plan. It is an essential part of our ambitious project along with a full renovation of the Parc des Princes.”

Since PSG was acquired by Qatar Sports Investment in 2011, it has been transformed from a club of modest achievement to one of the strongest teams in Europe. It has won four league titles in a row, and regularly reaches the latter stages of the Champions League.
