Visitor attractions in Paris, France – including The Louvre, The Musee d’Orsay and the Arc de Triomphe – have all been closed over recent days due to strike action over government staff cuts.

The strikes began at the end of last month, when the Pompidou Centre shut down as workers protested the Culture Ministry’s plans to replace just half of its retiring civil servants.

Other sites operated by the Culture Ministry, such as Notre Dame, the Rodin Museum and the Chateau de Versailles, have also been affected.

While some of the sites have reopened, further strikes could be possible during the days ahead. Talks were being held today (7 December) to decide on future action but as yet, culture minister Frederic Mitterrand has stood firm.
