Park authority improves walkers route
The North York Moors National Park Authority is constructing a new hard path near Jugger Howe Beck to make the trail easier for walkers and prevent further erosion.
The route, which is part of the Lyke Wake Walk, is well used and high footfall along with erosion caused by flash flooding in the area has weakened the banks.
The new stone pitched path – due to open in spring 2008 – will also encourage revegetation on either side of the path.
Karl Gerhardsen, recreation and access officer at the authority, said: “The improvement works at Jugger Howe Beck will provide an easy to use route across the moorland and also help to make it more sustainable in the long term.
“In addition, thanks to the permission of the landowner, we are looking to designate this route as an official right of way to make it easier to secure funding to maintain it in the future.”
