Parks and Green Space Institute launched
CABE Space, the Royal Parks, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and Leeds City Council have pledged their support for the new Parks and Green Space Institute.
Registered charity GreenSpace and the Institute for Sport, Parks and Leisure (ISPAL) – the new professional body for sport, parks and leisure – teamed up to launch the institute on 30 November.
Sarah Gaventa, director of CABE Space, said: “A dedicated Parks and Green Space Institute offers a great opportunity not only to address skill needs, but also to promote awareness of the value of good design and to ensure that urban green space professionals get the profile they deserve in order to proactively engage in the wider process of place-making. CABE looks forward to working with the new institute to respond to these exciting challenges.”
Mark Camley, chief executive of the Royal Parks, said: “We welcome the institute’s focus on developing future skills and careers and look forward to working closely with them in the future.”
Simon Thornton-Wood, director of science and learning at the RHS, added: “There has never been greater recognition of the need for professionalism in developing and maintaining our urban parks and the RHS looks forward to working closely with the new institute to fill the skills gap.” Details: www.green-space.org.uk
