Industry veteran Patrick Huey has been named corporate spa director for luxury hospitality group Montage International, where he will oversee the spa divisions for both Montage and Pendry hotels and resorts.

Huey was previously group spa director, Asia for Minor Hotel Group, which operates the Anantara, Avani and Tivoli hotel brands.

“I’ve been familiar with Montage for the last 10 years, and I have had a great admiration for the exceptional quality of hospitality they consistently deliver and are known for within the industry,” Huey told Spa Opportunities. “To be a part of the Montage legacy and mission is truly an honour.”

Based at Montage’s corporate headquarters in Irvine, California, Huey will be responsible for Montage’s spas in Deer Valley, Utah; Laguna Beach, California; Beverly Hills, California; Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina; Kapalua Bay, Hawaii; and San Diego, California.

The company is also opening Montage Los Cabos in Mexico this year and has just announced Montage Healdsburg in Sonoma County, California.

“The growth for both brands looks robust and strong over the next three to five years, so we will be able to gain momentum in the spa and wellness markets,” said Huey. “Being able to apply the wide array of exposure I have had in international markets to the development of the Montage and Pendry spa concepts gives us a unique positioning in our segment and markets. I’m also excited to be working with the savvy spa leaders in our resorts and hotels.”

The Spa Montage concept includes spa, beauty and wellness offerings inspired by each spa’s destination. Spa Montage Elements of Wellness Retreats focus on areas of expertise such as European spa science, progressive fitness programmes, mind-body activities and nutrition.

Huey began his career in California as spa manager for Equinox in Hollywood. He then was named spa director for Four Seasons before becoming corporate director for spa operations for the Viceroy Hotel Group. He progressed on to be corporate director of spa for Sandals resorts, before taking on his position at Minor last year.

“I’m very excited to be back in the US and in Southern California, where my spa career began,” said Huey. “It feels like I have come home.”

Minor Hotels has also just announced that Zoe Wall has been named group director of spa, Asia for its MSpa spa management company.
