The Duke of Edinburgh unveiled a plaque celebrating the completion of the new and improved Pavilion leisure centre in Bromley town centre during the visit of Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh on 15 May.

The Duke of Edinburgh was also presented with a diamond designed bowling ball which is now on display in the Pavilion.

Thanks to a £5m improvement scheme with Mytime Active in partnership with Bromley Council, the centre now has a new state of the art gym, ten pin bowling centre and family play area.  A new entrance off the terrace of Queens Gardens leads into a café and reception from which customers now access over 100 exercise stations in the two level open plan gym with its pool side views and nearby exercise and spinning studios.

Hundreds of visitors who came to Bromley to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee later went around the improved leisure centre and tried out the new bowling centre. They were encouraged to take the Mytime 2012 Challenge - a free competition with hundreds of prizes for people taking part in activities at local leisure centres and golf courses throughout the summer.

Steve Price, Mytime Chief Executive said: "The new Pavilion is a great place for all the family to enjoy an active lifestyle and have a great time. We've already had a great reaction from customers enjoying the new gym and exercise classes, and the bowling and play centres will make Bromley a great place to live, work and visit and keep the entire family fit and healthy."

Councillor Stephen Carr, the Leader of Bromley Council said, "This scheme which was a major investment, directly improves the leisure offer in the Bromley town centre and supports our development plans which are underway in other parts of the town too. The new Pavilion provides modern leisure facilities for residents and visitors and enhanced leisure options do increase the town's attractiveness for all age groups, including families and young people."
