The swimming pool at Pendle Wavelengths in Nelson, Lancashire, has had a facelift.

The pool area was closed for seven weeks to enable major refurbishment work to be carried out. It closed on December 31st and re-opened on time on Monday, February 18th.

The work includes the installation of new changing rooms, showers and lockers; the waterslide has been refurbished and better changing facilities have been created for families and disabled customers.

This is the first of Pendle Leisure Trust's three leisure centres to have the revamp. West Craven Sports Centre in Barnoldswick, closed on February 25th for five weeks to enable work to be carried out.

Again, this will include the installation of new changing facilities, including showers, toilets and lockers.

The poolside area will re-open on Good Friday, March 29th, just in time for the Easter holidays.

And the final centre to get a new look will be Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne, with the current changing area replaced with more up-to-date fixtures and fittings.

This work will take place between April 15th and May 27th.

Chief Executive of Pendle Leisure Trust, Phil Storey, said: "I know this work will cause some inconvenience for our customers, but I'm sure they will agree, in the long run, it will be worth it.

"We are always looking at ways to improve our service and standards to benefit our customers and I'm sure they will see these refurbishments as a significant improvement."

The pool area at Pendle Wavelengths re-opened with giveaways and tours of the facilities and the revamp proved a massive hit with the hundreds of adults and children who packed the pool during the Half Term Holiday week.
