People1st launches wide-ranging consultation on industry qualifications
Think that qualifications don’t meet your needs? Attend one of People1st ‘s consultation meetings and help make them relevant for your business!
People1st has, over the past two years, spoken to more than 5,000 employers across the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sector and identified that sector employers:
• are confused about the number of qualifications available
• believe that most of the qualifications are not relevant to their needs • are looking for shorter, bite-sized qualifications and believe that current qualifications are often too long
As a result of this, whilst two thirds of employers are training their staff, only 3 per cent of this training is resulting in a formal qualification going some way to explaining why only 5 per cent of sector employers have received any government funding to help with their training.
People1st has arranged a series of meetings to focus on ways to tackle this confusion and start a radical reform of sector qualifications to ensure that they:
• meet employers’ needs
• help promote clear development pathways • are clearly understood
• are flexible to allow employers to build packages that meet their needs.
Seventy-five two-hour meetings have been arranged across the UK to focus on the technical areas of the qualifications and give you the chance to provide your opinions on what you want to see industry qualifications deliver. The meetings are all scheduled for October and November and cover the followings sectors: licensed retailing; house-keeping and front office; learning providers; travel; tourism services; leisure, visitor attractions and events; school meals; food preparation and cookery (Chefs); food and drinks service.
