Physic garden for Stratford
The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) which owns and cares for five properties in the historic town, is planning the restoration of a physic garden at one of their properties, helped by ASVA member RGA.
Hall’s Croft – a house owned in the early 17th century by John Hall, a physician and Shakespeare’s son-in-law – is to be refurbished to create a more accurate idea of how it would have looked at the time.
RGA, the Edinburgh-based consultants, are carrying out a business feasibility study for the property. This work builds on a previous project undertaken for SBT and the Royal Shakespeare Company, which identified a range of opportunities to improve access to the collections and heritage assets held by both organisations.
The medical history of the property will be emphasised throughout the house and into the garden, which will be remodelled to focus on the physic element, with medicinal plants and herbs.
RGA’s task is to test the likely impact of these proposals from a business planning viewpoint, assessing their implications on the financial position of the property and the trust.
