Picketts Lock designs submitted
Plans unveiled for the Lee Valley National Athletics Centre proposed for Picketts Lock in Enfield, have now been formally submitted to the London Borough of Enfield by Dwain Chambers, the 1999 World Championships 100m Bronze medallist. The 43,000-seater venue should be completed in time to host the 2005 IAAF World Championships. As well as providing a top athletics venue, it will also house a High Performance Centre funded by the Lottery World Class Performance and Potential Programmes. Culture Minister, Chris Smith, says this is the best thing to happen to UK athletics in a generation: The National Athletics Stadium will provide a fitting venue for the 2005 Championships and a wonderful legacy for the sport. Shaun Dawson, chief executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority says the submission of the application heralds the successful conclusion of an intensive, year-long feasibility study: We have a design proposal of outstanding merit.
