Picketts Lock stadium proposal on hold
Sport England has launched an enquiry into the Picketts Lock proposal for an athletics stadium for the 2005 World Championships. Sport England has ordered a seven week report to be led by Patrick Carter, who compiled recent studies on Wembley and the Commonwealth Games. With other venues already ruled out, his findings will be vital to England's chances of hosting the competition. Trevor Brooking, chair of Sport England congratulated the project team at Picketts Lock, but added There are nevertheless four significant issues which need to be addressed, and this is why we have not felt able to grant funding at this stage.
