Planet Fitness to enter Mexico exercise market
Planet Fitness will continue to grow its brand internationally by entering the Mexican fitness market this year.
Due to open this spring in Santa Catarina, Monterrey, the new gym will be run by franchisee group Jeg-Fit LLC, which owns 19 other sites across Arizona and Washington in the US.
“We're excited to announce our entrance into Mexico as we continue to extend our footprint and expand our brand internationally,” said Chris Rondeau, chief executive of Planet Fitness.
“We continue to see an increasing global enthusiasm for our brand and we look forward to introducing the Santa Catarina community to the Judgement-Free Zone.”
The club will feature cardio and strength equipment, circuit training, changing rooms, flat screen televisions and free small group fitness classes.
It will also have the brand’s 'Lunk Alarm' – a purple and yellow siren on the wall used as a light-hearted reminder that grunting, dropping weights or judging others is not allowed.
Black Card members will be able to bring a guest free of charge and have access to extra services, including hydro-massage recliners, massage chairs, haircuts and tanning sessions.
As reported last week, Planet Fitness has opened its first gym in Hawaii, giving it a presence in all 50 US states.
Founded in 1992, it also has clubs in Puerto Rico, Canada, the Dominican Republic and Panama, with more than 10.5 million members.
