Planners reject Tenby hotel proposals
Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority (PCNPA) has dismissed plans for the mixed-use overhaul of a Tenby hotel, which was severely damaged by fire in 2008.
Proposals put forward by developer Dovey Estates included a 68-bed hotel on the site of the former Royal Gatehouse Hotel, a new cinema to replace the Royal Playhouse Cinema and retail units. The project, which was designed by Cardiff-based C2J Architects, was rejected by PCNPA's development committee as it was deemed to not be in keeping with the rest of the town centre.
According to the BBC, committee chair Michael Williams said: "The principle of redeveloping these sites was welcomed by members, however, the schemes in their current form fail to address a number of policy issues. "In addition, insufficient information had been provided by the applicant to fully assess the proposals and the design detailing was felt to be wholly inappropriate and inadequate for these exceptionally important sites in Tenby, one of the national park's iconic tourist destinations."
