Planning boost for BCFC stadium scheme
Plans for a new multi-million pound stadium development at Ashton Vale, Bristol, have been handed a boost by Bristol City Council's development control (south and east) committee.
Sainsbury's has been awarded planning permission to develop a new supermarket at the site of Bristol City Football Club's (BCFC) current Ashton Gate ground. The plans would provide crucial enabling funds for the npower Championship side's bid to develop a 30,000-seat venue designed by Populous.
BCFC chair Steve Lansdown said: "We're not on hold and we're still targeting 2013 for the new stadium. There's still a lot of work to be done and arguments along the way." The plans will now go before the secretary of state, while issues surrounding a town and village green application for the stadium site is still to be resolved.
