Plans revealed for £5m boutique hotel development in Colchester
The Elysium Group has announced plans for a new £5m boutique hotel, bar and restaurant to be built in the centre of Colchester.
The hotel will be Elysium’s first venture into the hospitality sector, with the six properties the group currently owns in Colchester all being bars.
The plans will see most of the current River Lodge venue on Middleborough demolished, with a 50-bed luxury hotel, wine bar and restaurant built in its place.
The renovation would be built on the footprint of the current site which would be sympathetic to the local area. The new building will help to mask some aesthetically unappealing structures, namely the neighbouring high rise car park nearby whilst also allowing a refurbishment and restoration of the existing Grade II listed part of the building.
The project would generate around 60 jobs, with staff being recruited locally.
Plans will be submitted to Colchester Council’s planning team later this year.
