Plans revealed for Yarborough Centre

Independent charitable trust, Community Leisure Services (CLS), has revealed detailed plans for the £2m refurbishment of Yarborough Leisure Centre in Lincoln.

The trust, which is dedicated to providing leisure and recreation services for local communities, currently manages 28 facilities on behalf of five local authorities and two schools, including Lincoln Council’s partnership with Yarborough Leisure Centre.

The first phase of the improved sports facilities for the centre began on 19 May while the full scope of work to be completed has just been released by CLS.

The development will include new wet and dry changing facilities, a fitness suite to be built over the existing trainer pool area and a selection of enlarged and improved reception and public areas.

City council staff have transferred to CLS while the development contract with Lincoln City Council includes the full support of existing club usage and ongoing development of club relationships.

Chief executive of CLS, Clare Kennedy, said: “Yarborough Leisure Centre has great potential and we believe the combination of our national experience and local expertise will deliver not only enhanced facilities but also improved service for the community.”

The executive portfolio holder for leisure and sport at Lincoln City Council, Councillor Cookson, said: “The council’s partnership with CLS is aimed at enabling all sectors of the community to achieve a healthy lifestyle and the investment of some £2m in new facilities at Yarborough Leisure Centre will provide first class facilities and improved services for the community.”

The work is being undertaken by Leisure Projects. Details: www.communityleisure.co.uk
