Plans submitted for new purpose-built gallery at RIBA headquarters
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has submitted plans for the development of a new permanent, purpose-built gallery on the ground floor of its London headquarters.
Under the proposals, the facility is to create museum conditions for the British Architectural Library to exhibit its collections of models, photographs and drawings.
Carmody Groarke have worked with Julian Harrap - the appointed Listed Building Experts - to draw up the design of the gallery, which will also house works of global significance.
RIBA president elect Stephen Hodder said: "This is one of the most ambitious and exciting projects the RIBA has undertaken in recent years.
"Our new gallery will allow us to open more of our wonderful building to the public and attract new visitors to engage with architecture in a unique setting."
