Players sacked as rescuer moves in for Stadia
Stadia Properties, which entered administrative receivership last week, could be saved from its plight by Scarborough Development Group (SDG).
SDG is part of Kevin McCabe’s company portfolio and there has been speculation that a deal, shifting Stadia’s ownership from current owner, Gavin Masterton, to McCabe, was on the cards before Stadia slipped into receivership.
The fall of Stadia, which has investments in around 30 stadium projects, has had a detrimental effect on at least two Scottish Premier League football clubs.
Stadia owns Dunfermline football club’s East End Park stadium, and might be forced to sell it in order to pay off its creditors.
Dunfermline, which owes Stadia around £500,000, has acknowledged the threat imposed to it by the situation, and has cooked up a business plan – which includes asking playing staff to accept a pay-cut – to stave off administration.
Meanwhile Livingston, which couldn’t prevent a slip into receivership following the fall of Stadia, has sacked seven of its players. A further six have been asked to accept a significant cut in their pay.
A number of clubs in the Scottish Premier league have recently fallen on hard times. Dundee and Motherwell were followed in to administrative receivership by Livingston last week.
