Wakefield Council has announced that the second phase of conservation work at Pontefract Castle has now commenced, with contractors working on the iconic Gascoigne Tower.
Work will include the preservation of the tower's cellar and the replacement of stonework in order to help the remains of the building are "better equipped" to deal with winter weather. Non-profit business WREN, Wakefield Council and English Heritage are funding the work, which is expected to take 10 weeks to complete and limited some access to the site.
