Pools roll out new swim software after successful trial

Leisure and cultural trust BH Live has introduced swimming lesson software CoursePro at a second leisure centre following a successful pilot phase at another of its pools.

CoursePro, developed by leisure trust and social enterprise Tone and software specialist Cap2 Solutions, was fully launched at Stokewood Leisure Centre in Bournemouth in June, with the aim of significantly reducing the amount of time the centre spends on swimming lesson organisation and administration.

It had been trialled at Pelhams Park Leisure Centre in Bournemouth from January 2011 and following positive feedback the decision was taken to roll it out to a second pool at Stokewood Leisure Centre.

CoursePro is a first-of-its-kind application that facilitates administration, course coordination and customer interaction, meaning that everything from organising lessons to updating the progress of each child and producing detailed reports is handled within the system. Swimming instructors feed up-to-the-minute data into the system via iPod Touches whilst on poolside, eliminating the need for follow up paperwork and manual reporting.

It also means that pupils can join a 50-week per year swimming programme at any point and move through levels completely at their own pace, without needing to wait for the start of a new term.

There are currently over 1,000 people taking swimming lessons across these BH Live centres, and Pelhams Park Leisure Centre Manager Gaynor Hawkett explained the benefits CoursePro has bought to their swim school: "Bournemouth Swimming Academy swimming teachers are now using iPod Touches to log a swimmer's progress rather than the traditional paper based systems, and we have found that this saves a considerable amount of administration time. This move away from the more traditional term time swimming lessons to a 50-week programme has proven to be more beneficial to a swimmer's progress and offers greater flexibility to the customer."

Parents and swimmers can log in remotely via a dedicated website, checkmyprogress.co.uk, to check swimming lesson progress and when prompted by the Bournemouth Swimming Academy Team, they can move up to the next level online.

"BH Live was one of CoursePro's first customers and we're obviously thrilled that it's been implemented at Stokewood Leisure Centre following success at Pelham's Park Leisure Centre," added Joel Chapman, Tone's commercial director. "Together with Cap2 Solutions, our aim when developing CoursePro, was to take the stress out of swimming lessons for teachers, parents and students, and streamline the whole process. Swimming is an important skill to have; this software makes it easier for customers and more efficient for leisure centres."
