Portable wheelchair lift wins disability award
A portable lifting platform, manufactured in Britain by Terry Lifts of Knutsford, won the New Product Award in the disability access category at Interbuild recently.
The lift, initially developed over a year ago, allows people in wheelchairs to get on and off podiums, stages and other raised platforms and has already seen the purchase of over 100 units ahead of the October deadline for DDA compliance.
Battery operated, with sufficient capacity for 40 trips without recharging, its design makes the lift portable and easy to store, able to operate in confined spaces and allows access to areas up to a metre in height.
The company also runs a rental scheme for organisations like universities, sports clubs and schools, which may only need such a piece of equipment for special occasions such as degree ceremonies and prize givings.
