Presidential museum reopens in Atlanta
The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum in Atlanta, Georgia, US, will reopen today following a US$10m (£6.3m, €6.8m) redevelopment of the attraction.
The museum charts the career of the 39th President of the United States, with around a third of the site exploring his life since he was defeated by Ronald Reagan in the 1980 election.
New facilities at the museum, which first opened in 1986, include an interactive exhibit offering visitors a behind-the-scenes glimpse of a day in the life of a president.
Another new addition will be a touch-screen video table which charts Carter’s work in the field of human rights since leaving office.
The revamp was designed by Maryland, US-based Patrick Gallagher Associaties in partnership with Virginia-based museum exhibition designer Design & Production.
The museum has been closed since April to allow the works, which were completed on time. The reopening today (1 October) will coincide with Carter’s 85th birthday.
